Why get a Septic Inspection?
By nature a septic system has a limited life span so one can expect that it will fail at some point in time. A failing system can expose you, your family and neighbours to sewage. Sewage contains hazardous waste that can cause disease. Sewage can also contaminate ground and surface water possibly polluting wells, streams, rivers or lakes near your home or business.
Five signs that your septic system may be failing:
- Septic odors
- Dark-green grass growing over the leach field area.
- Sewage back-up inside or gurgling noise/slow flush.
- Septic water surfacing in the yard.
- Sludge on top of baffles in septic tank.
If you experience the above problems, call McRae’s Septic Tank Service at 604-856-8344.
When to get Septic Tank Pumping
Best practices recommend to annually inspect your septic tank and pump it when needed or every two years without fail. If the tank is not pumped periodically, solids escaping from the septic tank will clog the pump and drain field.
Avoid flushing harmful material into the septic tank. Never put grease, newspapers, paper towels, cigarettes, coffee grounds, sanitary napkins, solvents, oils, paint or pesticides into the tank.
Septic enzyme products aid in digesting household waste. By adding an all natural product to your septic system every month along with regular pumping, you can help prolong the life of your septic system.
