There are plenty of ways to celebrate 75 years of McRae’s. We could have rented a fancy venue, dressed up, and tried to remember which fork to use.
Instead, we did what we do best: fired up the BBQ, brought the team together, and kept an eye on the weather.
Our McRae’s crew recently gathered for a good old-fashioned team BBQ to celebrate our 75th anniversary. Burgers, hot dogs, great company, and plenty of stories made for a pretty great afternoon. And we managed to get most of the BBQ finished just before the rain arrived—which, for the Fraser Valley, counts as excellent event planning.

75 Years Deserves a Few Souvenirs
To mark the occasion, we’ve also got something special for the team: commemorative McRae’s 75th anniversary water bottles.
Keep your eyes peeled—you may spot one out and about with a McRae’s team member. And if you do, you’ll know that person is staying hydrated in style.
After all, 75 years is a long time to keep things flowing.
Safety First… Even at the BBQ
Of course, a McRae’s gathering wouldn’t be complete without a little safety thrown into the mix.
Along with celebrating our 75th year, the team also completed our semi-annual hearing testing, an important part of our workplace safety program and a WorkSafeBC requirement for applicable noise-exposed workers.
We work around some pretty serious equipment. Vacuum trucks, hydrovacs, power sweepers, flush trucks and other heavy equipment aren’t exactly known for their whispering voices.
Why Hearing Testing Matters
Regular hearing testing helps monitor workers’ hearing over time and identify gradual or sudden changes that might otherwise go unnoticed.
It also provides an opportunity to catch the early signs of noise-induced hearing loss and make adjustments to workplace controls or hearing protection when necessary.
Just as importantly, hearing testing gives employees a chance to review the proper fitting, use, and care of their hearing protection.
Keeping Our Team Protected
Employers have an important responsibility when it comes to hearing conservation. Where required, employers must pay for hearing testing and ensure an appropriate hearing conservation program is in place. Testing must be administered by qualified professionals through an approved Industrial Audiometric Business.
For our team, it’s another example of something that happens behind the scenes but matters every day.
Because at McRae’s, safety isn’t something we dust off once a year for a meeting. It’s part of the job.
75 Years—and Still Going Strong
From our early days in Vancouver to today’s fleet serving communities throughout the Fraser Valley, Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Langley, Mission, and the Lower Mainland, McRae’s has always been about people.
The trucks have changed. The equipment has changed. Technology has certainly changed.
But some things haven’t: hard work, looking after our people, serving our customers, and occasionally trying to beat the Fraser Valley rain to the BBQ.
Here’s to 75 years of McRae’s Fraser Valley—and to the people who make it possible.
Good food. Good people. Good safety. And 75 years of getting the job done.
